How long has Avatars-Hangout been open for?
The first official Avatars-hangout site was opened in April 2005. The site officially moved to it's own domain the Summer of 2005. It had been currently running from 2005-September 2007 when I closed it for some time and reopened Spring of 2008. I plan to keep it open for some time!
Why "Avatars-hangout"?
Well this site
is a fan resource site for Avatar: The Last Airbender, so I figured why not make it be a "hangout" for fans? This is why the name Avatars-Hangout was born.
What was your inspiration for making this site?
Well first of all, when I surfed the internet I wondered how in the world websites were made. This also opened myself up to the world of graphic art, which both subjects I wish to pursuit in collage. After seeing so many fantastic designs I started to self teach myself code and design, which made me fall in love with design even more. I knew I wanted to make a website, so I began to work on Avatars-hangout out of self interest but also a way to progress. Personally I have lost a lot of interest in the site's subject: ATLAB, but I can never let this site go. It's a never ending hoby for me!
About the Owner/Misc. (questions)
Is Minty your real name?
No. It's not. You can call it a pseudonym. I do not give information about myself online.
Why did you close the site for a long period of time?
It wasn't lack of interest, I just felt I had hit a wall. I needed a long break because school was also becoming very demanding. Even though it was sad to close, and I actually thought I was going to never open the site again, I am glad I did!
What programs do you use?
Photoshop elements 3, (wow, ancient I know) text edit, a lot of patience, and tons of practice!
What other projects have you done/working on?
Personal projects, randomness in photoshop, etc. I am currently working on a personal portfolio.
Any advice to starting graphic designers?
There are three "P's" you need to know. Persistent, Patience, and Practice. Honestly do not get super discouraged, it takes a long time for people to learn how to design. I always get in slumps, everyone does, and if you do it usually means you need a break. Just keep at it, and make sure you love what you are doing! do not make this a chore for yourself ;)
